The process of benchmarking should lead to a change for the better: it should be seen as an opportunity to improve, rather than a threat.
In addition to benchmarking the performance of your own organisation’s purchasing function, you may also wish to benchmark the performance of suppliers.
Some areas of supplier performance which may be benchmarked are:
- Price
- Quality
- Delivery
- Administration
- After sales service
A supplier’s performance may be benchmarked against the performance of other suppliers and/or customer expectations.
Crescent Purchasing Consortium offer a benchmarking programme to assist with benchmarking college suppliers pricing against their consortia contracts.
